The Secret Commonwealth
- The Book of Dust, Volume Two
- By: Philip Pullman
- Narrated by: Michael Sheen
- Length: 19 hrs and 43 mins
The second volume of Sir Philip Pullman’s The Book of Dust sees Lyra, now 20 years old, and her daemon Pantalaimon, forced to navigate their relationship in a way they could never have imagined, and drawn into the complex and dangerous factions of a world that they had no idea existed. Pulled along on his own journey too is Malcolm: once a boy with a boat and a mission to save a baby from the flood, now a man with a strong sense of duty and a desire to do what is right.
I can not wait for the third installment.

Long awaited and gripping
This listen is new and comfortably familiar at the same time. If you liked His Dark Materials and La Belle Sauvage, I'm sure you'll love this. Just don't try to listen when falling asleep. While it might be possible to listen as a standalone book, a great deal would be missed as there is a wealth of depth added by the preceding storytelling. My only criticism is that because Philip Pullman reads His Dark Materials himself and Michael Sheen reads this, there are some jarring differences in pronunciation that sometimes detract from the experience.
