Laurel Lefkow reads the stunning new novel from the bestselling author of Girl with a Pearl Earring. When modest Quaker Honor Bright sails from Bristol with her sister, she is fleeing heartache for a new life in America, far from home. But tragedy leaves her alone and vulnerable, torn between two worlds and dependent on the kindness of strangers. Life in 1850s Ohio is precarious and unsentimental. The sun is too hot, the thunderstorms too violent, the snow too deep. The roads are spattered with mud and spit. The woods are home to skunks and porcupines and raccoons.

Brilliantly voiced, an American voice to read an American tale (I have come across an American voice on an audio book of an English classic - seriously bad). It is so easy to get totally immersed in this story and forget the real world. Cannot recommend this highly enough

In my opinion this is not one of Georgette Heyer's strongest works but Phyllida Nash's reading really does it justice and makes it into a perfect summer or cosy fireside read. Recommended

A moving love story displaying all of Austen's signature wit and ironic narrative style. Persuasion is Jane Austen's last completed novel. She began it soon after she had finished Emma, completing it in August 1816.

A wonderful British classic tale which has been voiced by someone whom I suspect has English as a second language. The problems that this shows up are concerned with our English grammar eccentricities. Eg, Captain Benwick. We say 'Bennick' but it is voiced as 'BenWick' It is SO irritating and by the end of the book - scream making. In the tale there is an accident on the Cobb and Luisa is hurt; MINUTE details of the progress of the invalid are relayed home but the word is voiced as 'minute' as in time and not 'minute' as in tiny. But above even all of this the very worst was OBLIGED being voiced as 'OBLARGED'
I am now very wary of Audio and listen to all samples
