The fourth volume of memoirs from the author who inspired the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small. Finally home from London after his wartime service in the RAF, James Herriot is settling back into life as a country vet. While the world has changed after the war, the blunt Yorkshire clients and menagerie of beasts with weird and wonderful ailments remain the same.

Have listened to the previous books in this series and loved them all. This one did not disappoint. Lovely gentle stories of life as a country vet beautifully narrated. I can't wait to start the next one. Highly recommended

A pacy, chilling psychological thriller, set to reinvent the genre. It begins, they say, with a woman screaming.... On a remote Scottish island, the McBride house stands guard over its secrets. A century ago, a young widow and her son died mysteriously there; just last year a local boy, visiting for a dare, disappeared without a trace. For Zoe Adams, newly arrived from America, the house offers a refuge from her failing marriage. But her peaceful retreat is disrupted by strange and disturbing events....

Story was ok but spoiled somewhat by the narration. Misplaced emphasis and pauses made it more difficult to listen to. Ending rather predictable.

This book was spoilt for me by the narration. In particular the male's accent and inflection grated so much so that I almost returned it.would also have been better if the female narrator played all the female parts and visa versa. Nevertheless, overall the story was very good and an enjoyable listen.
