Good narration but awful story

As a fan of the His Dark Materials trilogy I was looking forward to this book and I also really enjoyed La Belle Sauvage. However I wish I could erase this particular book from my memory. The relationship between Malcom and Lyra is inappropriate with him initially lusting after her when she is his underage pupil he went from being a protective almost parental figure in the previous book to a creepy older man incredibly quickly. I can’t help but think Lyra deserved better than this.

This is the third narrator in the series and the worst one yet. The constant change of narration has ruined what would have otherwise been a wonderful series to revisit time and time again. The story is fantastic but it is let down by a constant change in narration which results in names of places and people being changed at will. This has ruined my immersion I wish publishers would aim to keep narrators in an ongoing series constant where possible.

For the sake of continuinity please re-record this with the original narrator Jonathan Keeble! The change in narrator is not only distracting at this point in the story but names of places and people are changed and annunciated differently. This is the first time I’ve felt compelled to write a review on audible but after 4 books of the same narrator and being deeply invested in the story this change of pace was incredibly disappointing and disconcerting. I mean no disrespect to the new narrator Stephen Perring but I feel this should be recorded again out of respect for the fans of this series. The Expanse series made the same mistake and remedied this by re-recording with Jefferson Mayes after fan complaints. I don’t see why this can’t also be done in this instance not having the same narrator from start to finish is a big let down and will stop me from revisiting an amazing book series.
