Lee Lipsenthal had a charmed life: married to the love of his life, the proud father of two remarkable children, working as medical director of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute. In his personal relationships and with his patients, Lee was committed to living his life fully and gratefully each day. The power of those beliefs was tested in July 2009, when he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, leaving him with a 90 percent chance of dying within five years.

Funny, inspiring, honest - the perfect listen for anyone with well-worn trainers by the door (or who's thinking of buying a pair...). Vassos Alexander shares the highs and lows of falling in love with running, from his first paltry efforts to reach the end of his street to completing ultra-marathons and triathlons in the same weekend. This is a celebration of running - and what lots of us think about when we run. Part escape, part self-discovery, part therapy, part weight loss.

A better adaptation than the new film I would say. It was a little long in the summing up but generally very good. Almost as good as the BBC version that I have long loved. I will listen to this again I’m sure and I recommend it. Christie devotees won’t be disappointed

Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work. This is not a crazy, idealised notion. In many successful organisations, great leaders are creating environments in which teams trust each other so deeply that they would put their lives on the line for each other. Yet other teams, no matter what incentives are offered, are doomed to infighting, fragmentation and failure. Why? Today's workplaces tend to be full of cynicism, paranoia and self-interest.

For those of you desperate, when the millennium series ended, for more then this is a great listen. It carries on where the other left off and provides more of the same. Sadly it's not quite as good as the originals. This is not to say I didn't enjoy it, but I was left wishing they'd had a completely new scandal to move onto rather than more of the old one and at points the maths was too technical and went on a bit.
The ending was a bit abrupt too. All in all I probably won't listen again but I did enjoy it.

Clare Balding grew up in a rather unusual household. As her father is a champion trainer, she shared her life with more than 100 thoroughbred racehorses, mares, foals, and ponies, as well as an ever-present pack of boxers and lurchers. As a toddler she would happily ride the legendary Mill Reef and take breakfast with the Queen. She and her younger brother came very low down the pecking order. Left to their own devices, they had to learn life’s toughest lessons through the animals, and through their adventures in the stables.

Very moving and I wanted to shoot her parents a couple of times but I loved hearing about Newnham (my college too) and the racing descriptions were thrilling. Well worth a read xx
