This was my first ever audible book. I first listened to it in 2017 and I could not put it down then until I finished it. I just finished re-listening again - with new ears. You hear things you may have missed the first time.
An amazing and candid story of overcoming odds, not only surviving but exceling as well. Proof that it is possible to set your own bar and resist conformity.
Trevor's amazing narration complete with different accents must be experienced!
I laughed and cried and cheered. Even the saddest parts are told with elements of humor. I am Ugandan and can identify with many of the themes!
I could write an essay on why I am so impressed with this book!
'' The highest rung of what's possible is far beyond the world you can see' resonates with me!

Simply fantastic!

The author describes scenes quite vividly! Beautiful use of language. It's like watching a film. Wow! well done! The best ever.
And Adjoa! what can I say? I am spoilt forever. I now seek books that she narrates. Fantastic! Her accents are amazing!
Before this I listened to A Respectable Trade where Adjoa does wonders like always. Before that Americana and my goodness!!!..... list goes on👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

Fantastic story. I was captivated from the start. the story was intense in some places to an extent that was almost unbearable (which is a good thing !)

I love Iabola, felt sorry for Jejide and the emotional battering she experienced! And her husband despite everything . Heart broken for Olamide and Chesan. Yup a fantastic story!
I love the reader. The way she dives in and out of her accents. She has spoilt me for any African authored books that don't use an African reader.
The audio makes the paper book just seem so flat.

Amazing truelly Stunningly amazing

I am in awe! I have never been so impressed by an author like this. She is deep and profound. I am East African but could identify with so many things she writes about. She writes an African story. She paints an African picture. Her observatons about the life of an immigrant is so spot on. Her language, the way she paints the picture of her environment..... I commute to work every day and that time has been spent in Lagos.
I am so proud of this African sister! Bravo!
