Really enjoyed this but felt that the ending could have been stronger. Seemed like the author had lost motivation.

Narrator was terrible. Story is dull, characters are frustrating and numerous instances where a little more research by the author would have been useful.

Would you try another book written by Stephen King or narrated by Will Patton?

Yes, but not in this genre. Will Patton's performance was decent but nothing special.

What was most disappointing about Stephen King’s story?

The first part (Maury and Peter) of the story was both engaging and interesting, the second part (Bill Hodges, the detective) was ridiculous and should have been scrapped.

What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Obviously Will Patton is a famous actor and has a distinctive voice so at times, he adds depth to the characters, at other times he is like a pantomime dame attempting.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Frustration..............the Bill Hodges element was so clunky and ridiculous, i nearly stopped listening on several occasions.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointed by a disjointed and pointless story. It felt as if each character was worthy of their own book but instead they were crammed into one that didn't make sense.

Real Atmosphere

The narration added to the atmosphere of the audiobook and this really drew me into the story. I don't think that the plot is amazing but the writing is very good and therefore the combination of great narration and good writing creates a good audiobook experience. ***** for narration, **** for the writing and *** for the story.

Usually, i will listen to an audiobook of this length within 2 weeks. 6 weeks later i still haven't finished. I can't really say why but i think thats because i keep falling asleep. Make of that what you will but i won't be buying anything by Dan Simmons again.

As a few of the other reviews have mentioned, the narrator has changed which totally changed my perception of the characters. I almost felt as if the book had been written by a different author especially as the story itself has a slightly different rhythm to the previous 3. I also felt that the story was lazy as the Mike Carey had combined the characteristics of the main adversaries from the previous novels and i just felt as though i'd listened to it all before. Worth a listen i guess but not a patch on the previous novels.
