The year is 2016. Not our 2016. Theirs. Earth is dying, the result of a worldwide nuclear holocaust caused by America’s dictatorial President-for-Life Lewis Henderson, a man who will use any means necessary to maintain power and survive. Enter: The Splitter. A machine capable of splitting off an exact replica of Henderson’s world. A world where the cataclysmic events causing its destruction have yet to occur. That world is ours. In August of 1945, our postwar Europe becomes the battleground for Henderson’s operatives - led by his sociopathic son - as they engineer a complete redo of their history. By changing ours.

Struggled to finish this one. Perhaps it reads better on the page than in narration. The so called humorous quips of the main character start to grate early on and the author loves to flog a joke past its sell by date. Other characters were formulaic.

Since being introduced to Genetic engineering in my biochemistry course at university in 88 I have always been enthralled at the developments in this field.

This book coupled a well researched background to a thrilling story making a great listen. The narrator did a good job and didn't interfere with the pace of the novel.

Daniel Suarez has become a must read author to any sci/tech fan.

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr Caldwell calls her 'our little genius'. Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells.

Nobody knew where it came from. Nobody knew why it came. When an eight-foot-tall man made of stone appears in the middle of a busy city center one July afternoon, two-bit (and antisocial) reporter Andy Pointer assumes it's just a publicity stunt. Indeed, so does everyone else...until the Stone Man begins to walk, heading silently through the wall of the nearest building, flattening it, and killing several people inside as a result.

A good story and well narrated but the pace of the novel was a bit slow at times, hence the speed up of the playback pace. Saying that I would recommend it to readers looking to take a chance on it.

As someone who has been as Chris says "a Diehard Fan" since his afternoon shows I am sad to give this one star. Sorry Chris but you just come over as forced or whingeing in almost every anecdote or story. I know you have tons of good material and can deliver it flawlessly day in and day out, but unfortunately not in this case.
