I really enjoyed this book. The characters are rich and interesting, well rounded with totally credible dialogue. The story is powerful and insightful. I looked forward to listening to more and had to be strict with myself not to gobble it up in a couple of long listens! Well done Karin Slaughter a great stand alone.

Any additional comments?

I'm not usually a fan of short stories but I found these both witty and engaging. Having Jack Reacher as the thread that binds them together gives a unity that compilations often lack. Well worth a credit if you are a Reacher fan. I enjoyed them and liked Kerry Shale's narration although I didn't expect to since I'm so used to Jeff Harding giving voice.

I found myself quite indifferent to the outcome rather than eager to listen to more. In fact I abanded it about 2/3 through. Perhaps it was the narrator. I thought her voice was flat and dull. She didn't differentiate between characters which made dialogue hard to follow. I like Michael Connelly but I don't rate this latest heroine and would be unlikely to listen to more.

What disappointed you about Monster in the Closet?

I enjoyed the previous books in this series but frankly this could have been written by someone else. The story could have been tense and exciting but it wasn't. It was sickly sweet and totally unrealistic. The characters all had amazing insight and were so nice it was nauseating. The villain of the piece was comic book "bad" but didn't convince. How I stuck it to the end I do not know, I spent much of the time muttering to myself -”yeah right"

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Nothing, she was ok

What character would you cut from Monster in the Closet?

All of them

The wait was so long - and my anticipation high. I have loved this series and spent countless hours listening to the Devine Ms Porter. The previous book was not my favourite but I still hoped for a wonderful conclusion to the story of Jamie and Claire. Alas there was no conclusion, wonderful or otherwise. There were far too many extraneous characters about whom I had no interest and much too much about the Grey family (they have their own series after all) I hate to say it but I was bored! Too much military detail and too much plot repetition ( how many rapes in one family? Lightening might strike twice but rape??) I listen to my audible books in bed and thought I must have fallen asleep because the story seemed to take a giant leap forward. After crawling forward a moment at a time in the first part of the book we suddenly catapulted ahead with no explanation. I rewound back to the point I remembered but no, I had not missed anything the author just popped characters forward in time and space with no explanation (no plot spoiler but you'll see what I mean) despite its title I think this book lacked heart. The previous offerings were sublime but this was a damp squib - sorry.
