So the seas are basically free for all zones as no government really wants the hassle of trying to prosecute people who commit a crime on a foreign registered boat in the waters of another country flying a flag of another foreign country...even when they did prosecute a large cruise liner for sea dumping the fines almost made it cheap to repeat their actions.
It was well researched but did wander off track a bit.
It does make you think ,was that cheap tin of tuna produced by sea slaves ? or was the expensive tin also produced by the same sea slaves but put on a larger boat and "lost" in the paperwork to appear legit.
overall it did introduce me to subjects i had never thought of eg abortions at sea and reminded me how much corruption there is in the world.

not a riveting thriller but an interesting story

stupid guys launder money,so stupid they don't even make an attempt to sell coins from their coin shop. get caught because they are stupid, the end, would have been caught quicker if they were not so lucky

Ok so Jon is an odd ball like Louis Theroux and Julian Clary in one person. i only got it to fill up a 3 for 2 offer but it was the best book of the lot, i learnt that there are firms that can repair your image after a scandal , how you can end up an internet hero or zero with just one tweet/facebook comment which is a scary thought if i did tweeter .....
it also reflects the shallowness of today's society. it was fun and serious at the same. it is a book to enjoy and to make you think.

Nothing to see, move along

I have read many books about oppressed people so had high hope for this one but the people were not really rebels or hustlers just ordinary people doing ordinary stuff. the lack of free speech and uncensored internet/information leaves me with the same impression as when i was there 30 years ago, they say the communist party is great in public because if they don't something bad happens to them, its just they have a bit more money now.

Get this book.......

ok i am biased i have read several of Ben Mezrichs book over the years and loved all of them and this one was in the same vain. He takes a story and really makes you feel like you are involved. Please read his other books if you like this one as they have the same style.

I had high hopes for this book but it was like a monologue that just plodded along, you have no connection with the characters. it was really an idea on how to stop coke and stop wasting money on the fake war on drugs.
the only bit that rang true was last part where the politicians chose the easy way out,

I know nothing about Thiel, Hogan, Gawker and only got this because I liked another Ryan holiday book.
This was a brilliant cyber whodunit.
Ryan gives a great account of this story of a private person ( Thiel) being outed in an gossip "newspaper" and his ultimate revenge.

it will make you want to read more of Ryans books
