Having listened to the first book in this series, I felt my only option was to listen to book 2. The story is filled with dark humour and SW Salzman really brings it to life with his eclectic range of Southern accents.
Thoroughly enjoyable

The thrilling conclusion to The Extinction Files is finally here! In 2003, the first human genome was sequenced. But the secrets it held were never revealed. The truth was discovered 30 years ago, almost by accident. Dr. Paul Kraus had spent his entire career searching for what he called humanity's lost tribes - human ancestors who had gone extinct. When Kraus compared the DNA samples of the lost tribes with our own, he found a pattern of changes: a code. At the time, the technology didn't exist to unravel what it meant. Kraus hid his work and disappeared.

Life at the fortified town of Sanctuary is calm. The people, with their fearless leader at the helm, have created a haven where they can live out their lives in peace and safety. But it hasn’t always been this way. There were battles and losses along the way, and victory usually came at a price. With the younger generation coming into their own, it’s time for Leah to pass on all she has learned over the years. Time to tell the stories of how the world became the way it is...starting with the highwaymen of Andorra.

Absolutely loved this book. When After it Happened ended, the story felt complete, but I loved how we now have more stories from Leah's perspective, in the years following the battle for Sanctuary.

I thought that Kate did a great job narrating this from the first person perspective of Leah. I had already got past the change in narrator by the 1st chapter, and thoroughly enjoyed the journey we took through Leah's adventures.

I also thought that Kate had a very good range in her voices, It was great to hear Mitch with his Scottish accent and the blended accents of the people who no inhabit Sanctuary were extremely well done!

I for one cannot wait until the next book.... let's have more of Leah DCF!

United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite expeditionary force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed Skippy is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.
