When billionaire philanthropist Sir Hugo Fletcher is discovered murdered in his London home, tied naked to a bed, the scandal is only a shadow of the darkness lurking off-camera. Laura Fletcher returns from an Italian vacation to find her home under siege by paparazzi. Is she shocked? Yes. But is she distraught? Not exactly. Chief Inspector Tom Douglas reveals his suspicions that Hugo’s killer is female. The deeper Douglas digs, the more sordid details he uncovers.

The story is actually not too bad but the main character is a woman narrated by a man so the resulting squeaking damsel is not at all appealing. I did listen on holiday and dozed off intermittently but found that it didn't really make much difference (I re-wound to be sure ) Poor Tom isn't the sharpest knife in the kitchen and Laura hasn't any brain at all apparently. If any of this appeals to you then definitely go for it. Unfortunately it just didn't float my boat at all. 😒

Would you try another book written by John le Carré or narrated by Michael Jayston?

Maybe it was just me, but I couldn't make head nor tail of this book. I did keep trying but only got more lost.

Has The Night Manager put you off other books in this genre?

The narrator was good and I would certainly give him another chance. It was the story that lost me. I would however try another book by this author but I would try to listen to it before the chance to return it had passed as happened with this one.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoy my Audible membership and find it great value and a pleasure to deal with.
