an interesting conclusion to this fascinating series although it is a pity that they are all not available from audible. I found this one a bit more wordy that the others and some of the ideas more obscure but still a very enjoyable listen and i would recommend it provided the rest of the series is read/listened to first!

Alexander the Great is the most famous king and conqueror known in the ancient world. In his lifetime, he was given honors equal to those of the gods. After his death, he became a legend and the “Alexander Romance” became the best-selling fiction of the medieval world.

A detailed look at the life and times of this fascinating figure, a lot of interesting thoughts and ideas from looking at writings of the times, the politics of the area both before, during and after his life. The life and times of Philip of Macedon, Alexander's father, was shown to be essential to Alexander's later triumphs

This is taken straight from short radio programmes with the result that it stops and starts very frequently. If these bits could have been taken out it would have been a fascinating listen but they ended up annoying me so much that I never finished it which is a pity as there was a lot of interesting information in it.

Before their extinction, dinosaurs dominated Earth's terrestrial habitats for about 160 million years. They present the ultimate puzzle in forensic science, but we have learned a great deal about them in the last 50 years. This lecture series will explain the evolutionary and ecological relationships among dinosaurs, what it might have been like to be present in their time, and the question of what ultimately brought about the total extinction of dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous Period.

If you want to learn about dinosaurs and their origins as well as the origins and development of our understanding of them then this is the series of lectures to listen to. John Kricher takes a delight in his subject that I have rarely heard before and takes you along with him all the way.

What could be easier than preventing a servant girl from marrying a prince, especially for three clever witches? But Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick face more than they bargained for when they journey to the distant city of Genua. For one thing, their power is limited to Mrs. Gogol's weak voodoo spells, a one-eyed cat, and a secondhand magic wand that works only on pumpkins.

A delightful Discworld tale with references to this world's fairy stories abounding on every page but cleverly distorted and revamped. I love these witches with interesting morals and ways of dealing with the unexpected. A good escapist tale often with laughter but occasionally thought provoking - I've never felt sorry for the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood before!

The Ancestor's Tale is a pilgrimage back through time - a journey on which we meet up with fellow pilgrims as we and they converge on our common ancestors. Chimpanzees join us at about six million years in the past, gorillas at seven million years, orangutans at 14 million years, as we stride on together, a growing band. The journey provides the setting for a collection of some 40 tales.

Having 2 narrators made this complicated subject easier to understand and it was a fascinating way of looking at evolution. It is a pity it is abridged as having the whole book would have been better although it made me reread the original. A must read for anyone interested in evolution

Ian Mortimer shows us that the past is not just something to be studied; it is also something to be lived. He sets out to explain what life was like in the most immediate way, through taking you to the Middle Ages. The result is the most astonishing social history book you are ever likely to read: evolutionary in its concept, informative and entertaining in its detail.

A fascinating and enthralling journey through the ups and downs of life in medieval england. It looked at things from an unusual perspective and made you think more deeply about life then and now. It was enjoyable and light hearted at times and didn't condescend . Jonathan Keeble's voice was easy to listen to and enhanced the words.
