Firstly, the performance was so good it could have been Agatha Christie as far as I was concerned. It was done with such emotion. well done!

The book itself is everything you could want, witty, informative, deep at times without becoming a drain and I absolutely loved it!!Such a wonderful woman with an incredible outlook on life!

A slow start but stick with it. It's brilliant

The narrador did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life! Dickens creates a wonderful world where coincidences cannot stop happening. You cannot help notice him putting his own opinions across through David.

The story wasn't great...

I did wonder about half way through why Maigret didn't seem to do anything other than observe people all the way through. limited storyline. wouldn't listen again but I guess I am glad I've listened to it. I hope the other stories and quite so bland...but we shall see...

Fantastic performance! Incredible story

I could barely sit still towards the end. It totally surpassed my expectations! One certainly to get your teeth into 😜

Perhaps it was because I know the story so well already, but I thought the story wasn't really Dickens's finest. Certainly not to be compared with Little Dorrit, our mutual friend, great expectations or bleak house for example.

I would certainly recommend the audiobook though if one is inclined to listen to it.

The storyline is the only thing letting this one down...after listening to the majority of Dickens's works, all read by the same person, this one just doesn't grab you as much as Little Dorrit or Great Expectations for exanple

I thoroughly enjoyed the content of this listen (if it can be called enjoyed as it is very informative as opposed to entertaining). However, the reader is drab! thankfully it is only short so if you want a well-rounded introduction, look no further

I really loved listening to David's voice, recounting his earlier diaries. You get exactly what you think you will get, great stories. - with more humour than I was expecting

I wasn't sure what I was going to hear when I started to listen, only having seen a handful of Simon's documentaries. This has inspired me to travel further out of my comfort zone, listening more. I will be watching a few programmes shortly. Thanks for such a raw and honest autobiography.

I can appreciate it...but didn't enjoy it

I had no idea what to expect from this, having heard it is incredible however I started listening to it. Anna herself is a most annoying character who drives herself insane. Listening to someone gradually having a mental breakdown took some skill from Tolstoy, but as far as I was concerned, she couldn't kill herself soon enough. the side story is much more interesting. It won't put me off attempting War and Peace, but this is a difficult book to get through...and not a lot seems to happen. The reader however was great!
