I bought this as a recommended for you , in a hurry to listen to on a long drive . It was very dangerous for all the wrong reasons I really tried but by chapter 17 I wanted to throw myself out of the car and just wished for another character to come in and kill em all including the narrator whose voice droned on and on and on . Awful story badly put together I want my credit back 😩

This book really appealed to my imagination, beautifully narrated , highly recommended to anyone who has said , I wish I could just step back in time and do that differently! πŸ˜‰

Couldn’t listen to narrator , kept falling asleep πŸ’€ as voice just droned on . May give it another go as intriguing story but will invest in a hard copy .

If you live in the U.K. this is another BBC Repeat

All stories have gone out over and over and over again on BBC Radio 4 , very disappointed to see that they charge license fee for repeated material and are now selling it on Audible? Sign in to BBC Radio 4 and listen to same old stuff there !

Really awful like I can only describe listening to one of those not so good YouTube channels, where old cases are chatted about ! No new information and very boring . Makes me want to avoid any future freebie. I listened to part 1-4 skipped to part 10 much of a muchness in relation to interesting !
Sorry for negativity .

Stephen King demonstrates that he was again years ahead of his time as familiar themes emerged from this book ,written years before the new materials .
I have read slicker but very similar concepts found in the likes of The Passage, The Shack and even American Gods ? This is an awesome book , characters come to life and after listening for a few hours I found my self missing them and wondering every so often how their doing , I really could have kept on listening for another 40 or so hours .

Wonderful Listen

I’m a little disgruntled at this purchase and wish Id just joined my local library so I could have quietly slipped it back on a shelf .
Sorry this book left me cold for all the wrong reasons!
The story was horribly predictable , without any intelligent or logical sense ?
I persevered to the part where the patient escapes then I gave up , I mean who who gives their locker number out to a patient ?
This story, to me was based on a half baked understanding of mental ill health with hallucinations being used as a flippant theme to glue a dreadful story line together .
There’s never a bad book , just books that you don’t enjoy and I really didn’t enjoy this one. I felt that the author shouldn’t have researched her stuff a little better because there’s fiction and fiction but this was ridiculously fictitious for a story line reflecting a CPN , a high security mental hospital and even rural living ( bats are part of the county side, no their not another boring hallucination) . The Magpie theme didn’t make any sense to me either ?

I doubt I’ll be able to exchange it , Audible’s Promise that you can exchange any book at any time isn’t actually true but you only find this out after 4 years of membership!

I am so sorry but I was so disappointed with this book , it was like listening to a more than predictable 1980’s cop TV show with your eyes shut ! The sound effects were dreadful, the dramatic music (and due to the dull story) the poor narrators were so wooden .
Really struggled to listen to this big time !
