Jackie loves her family. Sure, her teenage children can be stroppy. Her husband a little lazy. And providing round-the-clock care for her Alzheimer's-ridden mother is exhausting. All Jackie wants is for her children to have brighter futures than she did. So long as Martha, the eldest, gets into university and follows her dreams, all her sacrifice will be worth something...won't it?

I really enjoyed the audio version of this book. This really makes the story come to life. As usual, Amanda has a strong woman as the main character. Moreover I loved the Ida story line and the secrets in family.
Amanda draws you in with her hypnotic voice and she switches very easily from character to character .
deliously funny and also emotional in parts. Again nearly had me in tears with the Ida and and her daughter's melt down.
Definitely hits the heart strings

Maeve Binchy's best-selling novels not only tell wonderful stories, they also give an insight into how Ireland has changed over the decades but how people remain the same: they still fall in love, sometimes unsuitably; they still have hopes and dreams; they have deep, long-standing friendships, and some that fall apart. From her earliest writing to her most recent, Maeve's work has included wonderfully nostalgic pieces and also sharp, often witty writing which is insightful and topical.
