Jim Francis has finally found the perfect life - and is now unrecognisable, even to himself. A successful painter and sculptor, he lives quietly with his wife, Melanie, and their two young daughters in an affluent beach town in California. Some say he's a fake and a con man while others see him as a genuine visionary. But Francis has a very dark past, with another identity and a very different set of values.

I was looking forward to this one. Begbie being an enigma from previous stories. This was more of a whodunnit than anything else with Begbie being the inspector. It is interesting but did not hit the spot. I got more pleasure from his brief appearances in Skagboys than from this entire book.
Also the narrator..who is just superb in Skagboys and a Decent Ride also seems to be off his best.
Well worth a listen but do not expect much humour....something Welsh normally excels at.

Penguin presents Roald Dahl's Matilda, read by multi-award-winning actress Kate Winslet. Matilda Wormwood is an extraordinary genius with really stupid parents. Miss Trunchbull is her terrifying headmistress who thinks all her pupils are rotten little stinkers. But Matilda will show these horrible grown-ups that even though she's only small, she's got some very powerful tricks up her sleeve....

If you could sum up Parallel Worlds in three words, what would they be?

If you have any interest in space, the galaxy, the universe, the multi universes, time travel etc and your not a astro-physicist, mathematician or a professor then this book offers great insight into a previously inaccessible world. The language and simple metaphors used help your average, curious thinker like me to begin to appreciate the cosmos. The narrator's voice and delivery are perfect for this type of book

For over 20 years, Belasco House has stood empty. Regarded as the Mt. Everest of haunted houses, its shadowed walls have witnessed scenes of unimaginable horror and depravity. All previous attempts to probe its mysteries have ended in murder, suicide, or insanity.

Any additional comments?

Did I enjoy this audio book - yes, I wanted a good ghost story for Christmas and I got one. Well read. Occassionally you are at the right point in life to listen to something, if I had listened to this a year ago for example I may not of enjoyed it - but I got this at the right time and it was spot on.

In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher tells the true and intoxicating story of her life with inimitable wit. Born to celebrity parents, she was picked to play a princess in a little movie called Star Wars when only 19 years old. "But it isn't all sweetness and light sabers."

Listening to Carrie Fisher read this adds to the enjoyable experience, I can't see how the "pepper pot pepper pot" scenes would translate anywhere near as good without Carrie reading it out aloud, superb listen, I thoroughly enjoyed it - probably helped as im of a generation that grew up with Star Wars and, later on, of another crowd of people who can relate to Carrie's struggles.
