So much potential but failed to deliver

I'm still in two minds about this book. It took so long to get anywhere and by the time it did the book finished, I wanted to give up around a third to half way through but persisted. By the end it set up to be a good story but by that time I'm not sure I want to Devote any more time to it, so not sure if I'll read the next book especially if it follows the same arch and takes forever to get any where. Had the potential to be a really good epic but for me fell short

I wasn't sure what to expect, and without a plot to hold the story together at times it felt like an over extended short story. But in the end it felt like a transition book to set up the next phase. It's was good to revisit the characters of Matthew & Diana to see how the family progresses and to learn more about Marcus and how Phoebe's transition to vampire is handled, just hope that is more to follow especially with the children Phillip and Rebecca, it would be good to know more about Bright Ones

It took some time to get into the book, regularly got lost which character the narrator was portraying at times which was frustrating but by the end I loved it.

an improvement on the first book. the Narrator is a huge improvement. the story seems to be getting into its own rhythm and potentially developing quite nicely.

if you can get past the first few chapters, and allow the narrator to get into a flow, It does improve. the narrator becomes less annoying and develops a rhythm. The story is OK, it's no Harry Dresden but there is potential. As long as the main protagonist doesn't turn into a self centered ego centric prat. I'll give the 2nd book a go and hope for the best.

If you enjoy the Dresden files, you'll enjoy Alex Versus. An English mage who isn't quite in favour with either side and through Skill, luck and sheer determinedness gets things done. Wonderful additional to the moden magical genre. You can't help but like him.

just brilliant no more to say, a wonderful retelling of history, engaging until the end. Wonderful end to the collection...... Maybe....... Could carry on into the Tudor Dynasty with Henry VII & Elizabeth of York then stop??

It felt more like a collection of disjointed short stories rather than a complete book per se. They fitted togeather and didn't all at the same time, that said I did enjoy it, the stories moved swiftly, maybe lacked some depth due to the lack of background or history, but as a bunch of short stories put together it works and is a light and easy listen. The narrator wasn't too annoying either and he did grow on me as the stories progressed. Give it a try you will probably surprise yourself and enjoy it. Looking forward to seeing how the next book progress's the storyline.

I'd wanted to read this for a while heard a lot of good reviews but having listened to the book the narrator was wonderful. The story built and gently leads you along and builds wonderfully hinting at a number of things but at the end ........ well it doesn't feel like it really ends it just stops and feel left wanting an needing an explanation. Up to where it ended I loved it then it just left me disappointed.
