I did not enjoy this book at all. I stuck with it to the end, but it was very difficult to follow, with way too many characters and it took way too long to get going. The bits where the narrator was singing were also unnecessary and didn’t make any sense. It was chosen as the first read for a book club and 3 out of 4 of us did not enjoy this book.

Hmm, not overly impressed

Story is a tad boring to be honest, no real plot or startling revelations, twists or page turners.

I was expecting great things when I read the cover of this book, but I was sadly disappointed. I felt it was very predictable and didn’t lead the reader to care about any of the characters one way or another. I found it to be a typical story from the Deep South of the US with it racial tensions and undertones. I also found the plot to be lame and to my mind had lots of unnecessary dialogue, which I felt were for padding of the story.
Suffice to say I was hugely disappointed in it.
