A heart-stopping story of lies, brutality, and fear. British girl Megan Stephens tells the true story of how an idyllic Mediterranean holiday turned into an unimaginable nightmare when she was tricked into becoming a victim of human trafficking and held captive for six years through deception, threats, and violence.

Another story that should be introduced thru the educational system to young persons...pre-teens...in conjunction with anti-bullying. Parents who do not have solid foundations themselves and who are not able to 'do parenting right' have to come to grips with the insecurities and desperation for acceptance they develop in their kids. I wish i knew Meghan was still moving forward and keeping a grip....my teen traumas so many years ago were nothing compared to hers and so, i know the challenges ahead....i hope deep in my heart she has the support and guidance and mentoring it will take. I send out a prayer of strength to her.

From the author of international bestsellers A Circle of Children and Lovey comes an inspiring true story of a gifted teacher's determination to understand the ‘rotten' city kid everyone has given up on. Sitting quiet and withdrawn at a battered school desk, Luke had the looks of a shy angel - and a past that special needs teacher Mary MacCracken could barely believe. Already Luke had been picked up 24 times by the police. He'd set over a dozen major fires, and had a staggering record of thefts.

For the first four months of 1942, U.S., Filipino, and Japanese soldiers fought what was America's first major land battle of World War II, the battle for the tiny Philippine peninsula of Bataan. It ended with the surrender of 76,000 Filipinos and Americans, the single largest defeat in American military history. The defeat, though, was only the beginning, as Michael and Elizabeth M. Norman make dramatically clear in this powerfully original book.

Until these accounts are told, we live in denial about life itself and the brutal truth behind the pathetic blindness human kind has in how we go about setting courses towards the future. This is not only a gut-wrenching view into our past but reveals how far we have to go in rising above misguided ideas regarding right and wrong...and tolerance and acceptance.....thanks for opening my mind and heart....

When a paragraph in an evening newspaper reveals a decades-old tragedy, most readers barely give it a glance. But for three strangers, it's impossible to ignore. For one woman it's a reminder of the worst thing that ever happened to her. For another it's the dangerous possibility that her darkest secret is about to be discovered. And for a third, a journalist, it's the first clue in a hunt to uncover the truth. The Child's story will be told.

The listener is immediately woven into the lives of the Dowler family and the journey and pain and aloneness and anger becomes part of an understanding of the reality of what too many families go through...and sometimes survive with renewed faith rather than abandoned hope... It is a blessing that Gemma allowed us into this journey to remind all of us to never stop searching for the answers and to never allow ourselves to give up. Thanks, Dowlers, for sharing this story...I can only imagine how hard it was...

A dramatic and remarkable narrative of an extraordinary teacher's determination, from the author of the Sunday Times bestsellers The Tiger's Child and One Child. Torey Hayden faced six emotionally troubled kids no other teacher could handle - three recent arrivals from battle-torn Northern Ireland, badly traumatized by the horrors of war; an eleven-year-old boy, who only knew life inside an institution; an excitable girl, aggressive and sexually precocious at the age of eight; and seven-year-old Leslie, perhaps the most hopeless of all, unresponsive and unable to speak.

Living life with parents who are unable to nourish and love in the way parents should often defeats the soft souls of children...but in this touching and often painful story, again i am humbled to have been able to understand what so many untold stories happen every day. Inspiring and a lesson in just how wise young children can be....and how deeply they will fight to survive hellish experiences in tact, with grace and with hope.
