Know thy enemy. That's what the wisdom of history teaches us. And Adolf Hitler was surely the greatest enemy ever faced by modern civilization. Over half a century later, the horror, fascination, and questions still linger: How could a man like Hitler and a movement like Nazism come to power in 20th-century Germany – an industrially developed country with a highly educated population? How were the Nazis able to establish the foundations of a totalitarian regime in such a short time and hurl all of Europe – and the world – into a devastating war that would consume so many millions of lives? Professor Childers has designed this gripping 12-lecture course to shed light on these and other questions that have plagued generations.

These lectures are compelling, clear and informative. The lecturer is excellent and very engaging. I only wish the course was longer and more detailed as I learned an enormous amount from it. I will certainly seek out other courses by this speaker.

What would have made Learn Italian with Innovative Language's Proven Language System - Level 3: Beginner Italian better?

There is very little return on the time invested in this program. They could have packed an enormous amount more into the course given how long it is.

What was most disappointing about Innovative Language Learning’s story?

The pace of learning is so incredibly slow and it is so repetitive that I would recommend not listening to this when driving lest you fall asleep from the boredom. It might be excusable if the matter being repeated was difficult or useful, but he keeps repeating unbelievably simple words you would have picked up in 5 minutes. At the end of this course you have almost no vocabulary at all and only a tiny bit of grammar.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator talks in a condescending fashion, as if the listener is a small child who needs to be spoken to very slowly and quietly. His voice is monotonous and soporific and very quickly becomes irritating.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I want to find something positive to say but I really can't.

Any additional comments?

Take my advice and get the Michel Thomas Italian series instead. For a similar investment of time you will come away with a vastly greater vocabulary, a better grasp of grammar and loads more confidence in your ability to speak the language.

From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Would you listen to Fear the Sky again? Why?

This is a really engrossing story and I look forward to hearing the rest of the series. It is about the human race as an underdog, having to go low tech to beat a vastly superior enemy using guile alone.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fear the Sky?

There are a number of unexpected character developments that make it really interesting. The personalities of the humans and the aliens are gradually fleshed out and the characters are transformed by their circumstances and actions. This makes it believable and interesting.

What does R.C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

R. C. Bray is the best narrator I have heard on audible. Sure, some of his accents are dodgy, but he gives each character a unique voice and his reading of dialogue is so natural that you really get a feel for the emotion and atmosphere of the story. His gruff delivery never gets dull and I actively seek out books that he has read.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's a bit long to listen to in one sitting but I really looked forward to my daily commute so I could get my dose of the story!

This book delves deeper into the personalities and politics of a crucial time in astronomy. You get a real feel for the characters and how our understanding of our place in the universe evolved. Unfortunately it is spoiled by an absolutely dreadful narrator. He chops every sentence into multiple staccato pieces and the gaps seem to occur at random places in the sentences. His voice is also monotonous and the the poor narration distracts one from the content of the book.

For thousands of years, Jews have looked to the Hebrew Bible, also known as the Old Testament by Christians, for their origins, and have located in them the tenets of their faith. However, much of what is recognized today as Judaism does not appear in the Bible. How did Judaism develop from its biblical roots to the highly developed system we know today? What has changed - and what has remained constant? In this series of 24 spirited and provocative lectures, Professor Gafni investigates how the Jewish faith struggled to continually redefine itself during the first thousand years after the completion of the last books of the Hebrew Bible.

A fascinating course with an excellent teacher. Often in these Great Courses you get tired of hearing the same voice over the 24 lectures, but this was not the case here. The lecturer was engaging, humorous and a pleasure to listen to.
