Reading the reviews I had high hopes for this... the author must have a lot of friends. it's half a story??
Fortress Britain is just another thank God the Americans are going to save the world again story, just this time with a few plummy plucky Brits thrown in for good measure. and set in Britain. the story ends just as it's picking up, yet I feel disinclined to get the next one to see how uncle Sam saves the world.

Long ago, the world of the Four Lands was torn apart by the wars of ancient Evil. But in the Vale, the half-human, half-elfin Shea Ohmsford now lives in peace - until the mysterious, forbidding figure of the druid Allanon appears, to reveal that the supposedly long-dead Warlock Lord lives again. Shea must embark upon the elemental quest to find the only weapon powerful enough to keep the creatures of darkness at bay: the fabled Sword of Shannara.

Firstly this is the first audio book I haven't finished, which taken some of the rubbish I have listened to is saying something.
The over description of everything is painful, I think I gave up at the 50th mention of the "Great Ash Bow" ok Mr Brooks I've got it the first time, the subsequent descriptive repetitions are totally unnecessary.
Having just finished the Justin Cronin series expertly read by Scott Brick I am totally disappointed with his efforts as well. Maybe he was as bored as I was.
Anyway I won't be finishing the series, I have a good idea how it'll finish anyway. (Mount Doom with a character like gollumn perhaps)
My advice is avoid and re read Lord of the rings.

It's a gorgeous autumn day in Georgetown. The Democratic candidates for president and vice-president of the United States are dutifully glad-handing voters and the media outside a grand estate where a national-security conference has just been held, bringing together the world's greatest minds to discuss the issues that are threatening the country. It's American politicking at its best. That's when all hell breaks loose.

If you're looking for deep and thought provoking, this may not be for you! It is however a good ole yarn though. Vince Flynn delivers yet another easy reading action adventure which doesn't make you think too much but entertains none the less! It could do maybe with a more punchy ending but on the whole I'll give it the thumbs up. Does what is says on the tin!
