Once I got used to Anna's style of narration - checking I hadn't slowed down the speed of the speaker I really got into this and listened for as long as possible whenever I could.
Anna's narrative really adds to the character's increasingly unhinged and desperate state of mind. Great plot, attention to detail and some wonderful asides,it really feels like the main character is confiding in the listener. I would definitely recommend this and will look out for more by this author.

You went to bed at home, just like every other night. You woke up in the back of a taxi, over 250 miles away. You have no idea how you got there and no memory of the last 10 hours. You have no phone, no money, just a suicide note in your coat pocket, in your own writing. You know you weren't planning to kill yourself. Your family and friends think you are lying. Someone knows exactly what happened to you. But they're not telling....

I enjoyed this but it is not as good as Mark's other works such as Because She Loves Me or Magpies. The supposed Black Country accent is awful and ranges from Scouse to mock Birmingham, being a Black Country girl myself I know this is not how we talk. I don't think there is much need for an accent in this narration.
I liked the pace of the story and how it was told in the present day and with flashbacks.
