Read it for the policeman’s story

Pale imitation of I Let You Go. It tries to repeat the trick of flipping our assumptions but lacks finesse and credibility.
However the character study of the policeman and his wife was fascinating and touching - almost seemed to be written by someone else.

I loved the previous two books but I struggled to enjoy this one. It seems like a rush job that would have benefitted from a good editor.
Good central story but loooong episodes narrated by deliberately dull characters. And irritatingly smug and cutsie- enough with the anti-smoking and cat-loving tedium.

Really very scary

A brilliant listen which proves that ‘scary’ doesn’t have to mean gory schlock horror.
The narrator does a great job with the gradual change in tone as the protagonists spend time in camp. (No idea how any of the place names are spelled). Good accents too.
The story is simple and well told. It’s all about atmosphere.
