Lord Vere is used to baiting irresistible traps. As a secret agent for the government, he's tracked down some of the most devious criminals in London, all the while maintaining his cover as one of society's most harmless - and idiotic - bachelors. But nothing can prepare him for the scandal of being ensnared by Elissande. Forced into a marriage of convenience, Elissande and Vere are each about to discover that they're not the only ones with a hidden agenda.

.... so glad I didnt. Kate Reading is a joy and held me in spite of my irritation at times, with one of the characters. As the story with all its twists and turns progressed I felt engaged with the same character and found parts of the tale so laugh out loud funny. Soulful and romantic, satisfying and unusual. I loved it and couldnt stop listening.

For two years, England has been in the grip of Civil War. In Banbury, Oxfordshire, the Cavaliers hold the castle, the Roundheads want it back and the town is full of zealous Puritans. Consequently, the gulf between Captain Justin Ambrose and Abigail Radford, the sister of a fanatically religious shopkeeper, ought to be unbridgeable. The key to both the fate of the castle and that of Justin and Abigail lies in defiance...but will it be enough?

Michael Stirling and his cousin, John, the Earl of Kilmartin, are as close as brothers. However, Michael is secretly in love with John's wife, Francesca Bridgerton. When John suddenly dies, Michael is wracked with guilt and pain. Even though he is determined to remain simply Francesca's friend and confidant, the temptation is far too great.

A really engaging read,. Julia Quins writing is tender and insightful. In historic context the human condition and conscience are examined through a love story compassionate and true ,though I often think there is a humorous twist iin the corelation to the present time. Simon Prebblr is superb giving life to these characters.

Now this sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. The continuing story of Claire and Jamie.. Fascinating, compelling, intoxicating!... A romp through history... traveling in two centuries, full of wonderful characters, who both engage and repel. Epic battles..heartbreaking, as the narrative speaks of the futility of war. Love portrayed timelessly as truth. Funny, affectionate and unputdownable...thank goodness for audible narration by Davina Porter, (who deserves an award!) that brings vividly to life every character and scene with such dramatic flair. As I said ...Wonderful!

These characters jump out of this wonderful story and one feels that we are close up in a cinematic telling of medieval life. Wonderful.
More please Elizabeth Kingston! The truth spills out of the pages narrated so expertly and brilliantly by Nicholas Boulton.... I wanted to hear it again from the start.
