Pretty much a prequel to Cornwell's "Last Kingdom" series. Very well written, enjoyable fiction. I have listened to the whole series and look forward to the next one ?

If you enjoyed Red Storm Rising you will love this. Shame the British are left out if the story. I hope the sequel will be along soon.
Thoroughly recommend.

Should Pirates be treated as heroes for a story ?
While I have always enjoyed Simon Scarrows stories never missing one, I find using Pirates with very twisted senses of morals as 'Heroes' a quandary. The Roman soldiers who are depicted in this are m.j mediocre at best and lack the well known tactics and discipline depicted in earlier stories. It's a shame but I do not think I will continue with this series. I hope Mr Scarrow returns to what he does best.

The Shardlake series is excellent. This was good but rather too long. Well performed and historically interesting.
