NOFX: The Hepatitis Bathtub and Other Stories is the first tell-all autobiography from one of the world's most influential and controversial punk bands. Fans and non-fans alike will be shocked by the stories of murder, suicide, addiction, counterfeiting, riots, bondage, terminal illness, the Yakuza, and drinking pee. Told from the perspective of each of the band's members, this audiobook looks back at more than 30 years of comedy, tragedy, and completely inexplicable success.

NOFX turn in what might actually be the best quality release of their career, and it's a book rather than an album. If you think there's a chance you'll like this, then I promise you will.

Whilst the performances are a mixed bag, they are honest, and contain hidden gems that you wouldn't get from just reading the book.

For anyone thinking they don't need to read this because they've seen the movie, or because it seems a little old, then reconsider. This is an excellent thriller. The scientific ideas presented give depth to what could be a ridiculous premise, and suspend disbelief throughout.

I also loved characters such as Henry Wu, who gets way more page time here than screen time, and Robert Muldoon, because the idea of a whiskey-drunk wildlife hunter in a dinosaur park could be an entirely separate spin-off.

With astounding access to all the key players of the time, including members of Green Day, The Offspring, NOFX, Rancid, Bad Religion, Social Distortion, and many others, renowned music writer Ian Winwood will at last give this significant, substantive, and compelling story its due. Punk rock bands were never truly successful or indeed truly famous, and that was that - until it wasn't. Smash! is the story of how the underdogs finally won and forever altered the landscape of mainstream music.

As much a biography on Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood as the bands mentioned in the title, this look at the 90s mainstream punk explosion is truly addictive. If you have even a little interest and working knowledge of the bands included, this exploration provides a great insight and chronology of their collective journeys to the big time.

Interestingly, it turns out I pretty much went to Westbeach Recorders without realising it as part of my honeymoon in 2018. The building now houses the Museum of Death and another recording studio on Hollywood Boulevard.

I honestly did not want this to end. It really spoke to the nostalgic music geek in me, and my love for this genre. Any chance of a sequel covering the pop-punk and emo explosion of the early to mid 2000s?

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own family. He employs journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history.

Takes some time to get going, but rather rewarding in the second half. A murder mystery with a few more layers than usual, and interesting characters. There are a few unnecessary tangents, but perhaps they are there to set up the future stories. Lisbeth is a cool badass, and I’m looking forward to some more development for her as this series continues. Was a bit confused to find she’s not the main character, considering she is the title!

As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

An Evil Mind was Chris Carter's most acclaimed novel to date, described by the Daily Mail as "[a] chilling, compulsive portrait of a psychopath, and proves that Carter is now in the Jeffrey Deaver class." It spent three weeks in the Sunday Times top 10 and received brilliant reviews and sales. This terrifying new standalone thriller reunites Hunter and Garcia in their most explosive case to date.

Having all of the basics of a detective novel in place, this one raises the bar a little with a layered, love-to-hate antagonist. A bit gruesome and disturbing at times, which is not everyone's cup of tea. The victims even get some decent backstory considering how few pages they make it through. It's a shame Hunter and Garcia are for the most part so cliched and characterless, unless that's the point?

The vocal performance is suitably serious, and unobtrusive, lending itself nicely to the darker side of the material.
