This would have been an enjoyable listen, but it was ruined by dreadful and variable sound quality. I couldn’t rate the performance as it was often muffled & the speed varied so couldn’t tell how much was due to the reader, and how much to the recording; I suspect most was the latter’s fault. I was forced to give it one star, in order to submit this review.

A gripping & unusual tale.

I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would. It is a gripping though graphically violent story, with many twists & turns. I thought the portrayal of the father with altzheimers was very sensitively done, though the author was a bit heavy handed with the use of the F word throughout, which I always find off putting in an audiobook. It is the second book I have read by this author, & I will definitely read her others as she has a refreshingly different style.

This is one of the best books I’ve listened to in ages; a real gem, beautifully written & excellently read. I feel as though I’ve had a trip to Ireland! I will be looking out for more books by this author.

I enjoyed the ride.

This is one of the most unusual books I have read for ages. It is beautifully crafted & the narrator is excellent. It requires total concentration & it tied my brain in knots. I couldn’t imagine how the author could end this, and I think the ending he came up with is probably as good as one could get.

I enjoyed The Widow & found The Child just as gripping a tale. I enjoyed the narration too & ended up listening almost non-stop, & was quite caught out by the ending!

I loved the characterisation, especially of the main character. The narrator was brilliant too & I was sorry to come to the end of the book!
