Would you listen to Romeo and Jude again? Why?

Oh definitely. The most incredible listen for ages. At times I couldn't tell when it was Shakespeare's original work and when it was the modern fiction. The performances, of which there are many and on so many different levels, are amazing and draw you in to it.

What other book might you compare Romeo and Jude to, and why?

Abigail Tartelin's Golden Boy which also took me from laughter to tears (and I'm a man so I don't cry!!!!) throughout the story. Both books created characters that you fell in love with and developed an immense empathy for ... even the despicable ones!

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Blackpool....seeing the characters roles shift and change and realising the depth and vulnerability of the 3 key players. There must be a story here to tell Miranda's own story?

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Shakespeare lives

Any additional comments?

Worth booking a hotel somewhere that's a 6 hour drive away just to listen to this on one sitting and then recover over a bottle of wine.

If you enjoy Susan hill this is a great little top up and perfect for a short journey to listen in its entirety... Of course you then want another dose to get more of her wonderful character development.

Another great listen from Tess Gerritsen. A well paced plot with a few twists and turns. If you are a Tess fan the worth a listen.

Would you listen to Golden Boy again? Why?

Absolutely. This has been one of the most powerful and emotionally engaging books I have ever read or listened to.

What other book might you compare Golden Boy to, and why?

I found it quite unique but probably akin to Room by Emma Donoghue and Blue Eyed Boy by Joanne Harris. All letting you get deep into the heart and mind of characters experiencing real personal challenge.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

One of the most amazing effects of the book is the way in which you became so emotionally linked to the characters that I found myself constantly having my own feelings towards every character changing throughout the plot ... with the exception of Max, his brother and their own touching relationship.

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for another work by Ms Tarttellin but not sure how she will top this work!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This was an unexpected gem with a plot that just kept growing. M R Carey managed to create believable characters that you both fell in love with and others you grew to loath and feel sorry for!

What did you like best about this story?

A futuristic view of the world but one you began to wonder if it was just around the corner.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

A fantastic conclusion that was unexpected and brought a real sense of relief!
