I managed to somehow get through to the end. I found most of the book tedious. Too many long boring stories which were only of fleeting interest. It did come good in the end though. I couldn't put down the last few chapters.

Captivating and Touching.

This was a touching story. It went on for a bit long and there were times when my concentration wandered, but all in all I was captivated, wondering what was going to happen next. I found it an intriguing, sweet book which all in all, I enjoyed. Give it a try.

I stayed with this book determined to finish it. Elements were compelling and I did not want to put it down. At other times I became a bit bored with small scene setting details, which although very true to life, went on a bit. All in all it was an interesting story with the last line taking me by surprise. I have awarded just 4 stars overall because of the pages when my attention wandered.

I visited Iceland in September this year. I found this book captivating. The story, although historical fiction, was beautifully written and narrated. Having visited Iceland in the autumn it was fascinating to be taken through the workings and living conditions of the farms as they were then, and through all the seasons. I could relate to every word pertaining to the geology, the mountains, the valleys, the seas and the weather. This is a brilliant glimpse of Iceland in the nineteen hundreds, and indeed now.

A fascinating Insight.

A really good biography from England’s opening test match batsman and a prolific run scorer. There is a fascinating insight into his state of mind as he was lining up to face his eleven years of new balls. There are stories and observations a plenty, of life behind the scenes of International test cricket. All are told in an understanding, non judgemental and balanced way. It makes for gentle, captivating, reading. If you enjoy cricket, you will love this book.

An interesting story. I had no idea of the excesses revealed but they provided a unique glimpse into the inner world of rock and pop. I was genuinely captivated by some chapters in their entirety, but there were some where domestic tales were lengthy and a bit boring. But no matter. The book kept me company for days and it was good company. It would make a great holiday read.

An excellent book. Honest, insightful and well written. A glimpse into the soul of Jimmy, our world beating fast bowler. Interesting stories and reflections along with all that it took to make him the cricketing genius that he is. Don’t miss it.

There was quite a bit of descriptive preamble which was not all that captivating. The twists and turns in the plot kept me engaged and guessing for a while, but the story dragged on a bit and I lost interest quite a few chapters before the end. The final chapter did surprise me but there were too many improbabilities. It was an ok read, but not much more than that.

Gripping with suspense from the first few pages. If you enjoy psychological thrillers this one is for you. The ending is seemingly left hanging in the air, but I get it. Since I put the book down I’ve been anxiously contemplating the choices. The suspense and the dread simply continues. A very good read.

I wish I had never chosen this book. It was lightweight, boring and a bit silly. The plot was unrealistic and I didn’t much care for the babyish narration either. Don’t waste your time.
