I’m starting to get frustrated by how long these books are. There are too many plots, sub-plots, characters, back-stories and musings.
To put it into context, the books are so long that even the narrator cannot remember what voices he has given to the different characters. A lot of the small folk sound like they have speech impediments and learning difficulties. Davos sounds like something out of Treasure Island and Jaime just acquired Tyrion’s voice.
I don’t think I can face listening to the next book and I am not sure I can be bothered to read it because most of my favourite characters don’t feature in it.
To be honest, this was my favourite book of the series but maybe it’s time to give up. Even the writer had lost interest in them and can’t be bothered to finish the story.
Someone call an Abridger, please!

I have never seen the TV series so I had no preconceived ideas about how the characters should sound.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s very easy to get lost in this series.

I have never seen the TV programme so I embarked upon this marathon with no knowledge of the characters or story.

I liked the narration but I did feel that, as so many of the characters are knights, swordsmen and generally hardened warriors, a younger voice would probably have suited the characters better. Having said that, I find that the voice of an older man often suits this genre so, overall, I enjoyed the narration.

The story has a ludicrous amount of characters and I noticed that the printed book has an index several pages long to help you understand them. For me, there was way too much information about the minor characters and their back-stories; you really couldn’t possibly retain it all so it seemed like a waste of words.

This audiobooks has taken me through a weekend of decorating my house and for that I am grateful. Well, now to book two...

Sara is not convinced being a maid is better than being a whore, but the chance to escape her grasping madam is too good to refuse. Inside the Thorels' tall house in Spitalfields, where the strange cadence of the looms fills the attic, the two women forge an uneasy relationship.

Up until this point I have given the course five stars but I’m really starting to get confused and can see that no explanations are going to be given.
I really need a full explanation of how the gender of a word affects other words within the sentence because I cannot see any pattern emerging like I did when I did the Pimsleur Finnish course.
As the word order and gender seem to be so irregular and confusing, I am going to switch to the Paul Noble course where I know explanations are given and then come back to Pimsleur later. I know that he given full explanations that make perfect sense.
I am not new to the language so I really can’t see how a complete beginner could run with this course alone.

I bought this to accompany the Pimsleur course. The main course is formal and this is informal so from that point of view it will broaden your vocabulary.
In the main course you are given some instructions then it’s about repetition and practice. This audiobook is instruction upon instruction upon instruction upon instruction and the female narrator never really shuts up long enough to allow you to think about it.
Unlike the Pimsleur Finnish 30 lesson course, I found this to be a complete waste of time.
If you want to speak some basic Finnish, download the full course where you do five lessons at a time.
