A gem like little tale of happiness through virtue and decency. Made me blub a bit half way between Manchester and Halifax.

It’s a shame it’s not possible to give 6 stars for the reading of this fine, almost flawless book.

I use audio books to make my commute more interesting. I don't expect to find myself compelled to listen to the book at work when I think I can get away with it, or stopping everything so I can listen at home. Also they are supposed to last me a month, not just a few days. With these reservations I heartily recommend this book; gripping extremely well paced, carefully avoiding cliche and expertly narrated. Very nicely done.

This is a superb narration of a beautifully crafted story. A lovely tale of flawed humanity in a declining town, packed with humour, kindness and irony. An absolute pleasure.

An unusual and compelling fantasy

This is a very well told and extremely well read story about overcoming fear, a parable about the terrors we all face and the consequences of giving in to them.

While retaining many of the common fantasy tropes, the story avoids cliche and gives it's characters real inner lives. I enjoyed this from beginning to end, rarely less than engrossed.

I hope there are more books available from these excellent authors.

Embarrassing

I stuck with it for about the first third of the book.

My congratulations to the narrator for an excellent reading of this novel. For me, the book, which attempts to make a virtue of it's self conscious, self referential story, is tiresome in the extreme. Others will probably find it witty and amusing. As they say; your mileage may vary.

Lightweight fun

This is a well constructed novel, with a very good reading. I downloaded this on a friends recommendation, and at first my heart sank as the cast of cliched, routine characters familiar to anyone who watches a UK police drama were introduced.

However, lacking audible credits I stuck with it and was rewarded with a nicely plotted uncomplicated drama very much in the Doctor Who vein.
