Would you listen to Lost Connections again? Why?

I have listened to the book twice now and each time have gained many pearls of wisdom and had many light bulb moments and sense of validation of what I believed to be true about mental illness and the correlation with how we live and how disconnected we are from others and self.

What other book might you compare Lost Connections to, and why?

I havent come across other books that take the same approach as this book and as such think the gathering of information and connections made between our mental health and environment and the way in which it is presented is novel. Some of what is written isnt new however its framed, structured and put together in a way that just makes sense and makes it easy to grasp.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I really enjoyed the story about Berlin and the coming together of a community to help on person initially, and then what grew out of community and connections being made. What struck me also was the impact of childhood trauma on later adult well being and mental health.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The story about Berlin and the coming together of people to support each other was very moving , as well as the story about the baboons and how their society is structured and the implications for us. Very sad that when picked upon and ostracized etc, the damage done to the body and mind and the sense of just bowing the head and giving up etc was really sad to read. Can see how we as animals follow suit when life just becomes too much.

Any additional comments?

Highly recommend this book as a great read, information on and understanding of depression and anxiety and the cultural changes that need to happen to stop this epidemic. Very heartening to have a social psychological approach described or biopsycho social model and not just treating the symptoms.

Where does The Hairy Bikers Blood, Sweat and Tyres rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my favourite as its very real, down to earth and insightful. Very entertaining and provided a good laugh at times.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both characters were equally interesting and the overlap in their stories is amazing....meant to meet I think.

What about Si King and Dave Myers ’s performance did you like?

Glad the lads did the narration as it makes it more authentic and enjoyable to listen to.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Thought the honesty about their lives and ups and downs was refreshing and at times very moving.

Any additional comments?

Great book and would love another with more stories about their travels which were very entertaining and enjoyable.

Would you try another book written by Thilo Wydra and Rachel Hildebrandt (translator) or narrated by Jonathan Yen?

Some interesting stories and insight , gives a good background to the emergence of grace Kelly and perhaps some explanation for the person she became and decisions she made. Thought though that the info on her family of origin and subsequent info provided by interviews with her family today were very sugar coated to say the least and found that disappointing.

Would you ever listen to anything by Thilo Wydra and Rachel Hildebrandt (translator) again?
