Due to all the hype I started this with high expectations of a good, robust and provoking novel. unfortunately the characters are weak and fail to inspire any connection between them and the reader. The pace started well with character development seeming to tease us into believing there would be a climax to their respective roles. This never delivers. A shame as the thread of a really exciting and thrilling read was contained within.

This is a world divided by blood--red or silver. The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of godlike superpowers. And to Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change. That is until she finds herself working in the Silver Palace. Here, surrounded by the people she hates the most, Mare discovers that despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own.

The actors were sympathetic to Priestley s message and kept the suspension throughout. A well performed production that was very thpught provokong and as relevant today as it was then.
