Shook One details the ways anxiety has been a driving force in Charlamagne’s life since childhood. For many years, he stressed over what he thought were personal shortcomings: being unpopular in school, potential rejection by women, being ugly and, worst of all, falling into the life of stagnation or crime that caught up so many of his friends and family in his hometown of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Even after achieving national prominence as a radio personality, Charlamagne still found himself paralysed by thoughts that he wouldn’t be able to take his career to the next level.

I was surprised by how much I liked this book and how engaging it was. CTG does a great job of narrating and he is very easy to listen to. I appreciate how honest and open he was, and it's great that a black man in the entertainment industry has done so, I'm sure this will help a lot of people! The added input from the psychologist was also a nice touch.

I will be purchasing the other book.

So, this is me. Lily Allen. I am a woman. I am a mother. I was a wife. I drink. I have taken drugs. I have loved and been let down. I am a success and a failure. I am a songwriter. I am a singer. I am all these things and more. When women share their stories, loudly and clearly and honestly, things begin to change - for the better. This is my story.

The book is so refreshingly honest; it provides an insight into Lily Allen's life that I didn't expect. I felt an array of emotions reading this - empathy, pity, compassion, intrigue, judgement, laughter... everything!

Well written, well read

Does EXACTLY what it says on the tin...
I read a lot of self development books and never thought I would say this but this book has changed my life. I even bought a hard copy to annotate which is just as great.

if I had to nit-pick, the only down side - being an audiobook - is having to print the diagrams separately. There is a lot of reference to these diagrams but I don't think its takes anything away from the book.

it's extremely practical and is written concisely - 5/5

I actually quite like Megan but within an hour I felt I was listening to the diary of a teenage girl - just very amateur.
She also seems to paint herself in the best light; which doesn't seem very honest to me.

The book is split into little stories and isn't very engaging, I just found myself bored and didn't finish it.

Targeted towards a teenage audience I think.

Really enjoyed this book as well as its predecessor, it was really compact and straight to the point.
I like the matter-of-fact style of narration rather than the typical soothing tone you usually find with these type of books - the soothing tone is fine, but not always as engaging over long periods.

Irvine plumbs the wisdom of Stoic philosophy, one of the most popular and successful schools of thought in ancient Rome, and shows how its insight and advice are still remarkably applicable to modern lives. In A Guide to the Good Life, Irvine offers a refreshing presentation of Stoicism, showing how this ancient philosophy can still direct us toward a better life.

I bought this book as part of my self imposed "year of development" and it kept popping up in my recommendations. I wasn't sure I would connect with it because I haven't with all the "popular" books, but I was WRONG.

It took about 5 minutes for me to get into it but after that I was hooked and I listened to it 3 times in 2 days - I genuinely believe it's a life changer. It resonated so well with me and Peter Coyote's narration is perfect. I am about to purchase The Fifth Element.

Just Ask the Universe is not a book of New Age gobbledygook filled with empty promises. Angels won't fly from above and touch you while you're listening. You will not be asked to practice unusual or tedious rituals. There will be no preaching or sage advice and there will most certainly be no channeling of your inner chakras or dressing like Friar Tuck. Just Ask the Universe is a realistic guide to personal development.

I have rated 4 because I found it very repetitive.

She gave me a lot of "ah-ha" moments... but towards the end I was just waiting for it to finish.
