The writing style is very repetitive, everything happens ‘presently’, but only ‘after dejeuner’. Repetition became comical. The dated style means there are stereotypes for women, peasants, mothers etc.

A great story that will keep you listening and guessing, but often let down by weak narration from the male actor - almost like reading in primary assembly at times.

Having read many Nicci French books, I knew the story line would be superb, but unfortunately it’s let down by irritating narration, attempts at different voices that sound childish, and distract from the story as a result.

Good story, although predictable towards the end. However apart from the reader for Emma, the performances are stilted and poor.
