Appearances can be deceptive; but the truth is a dangerous thing.... On the night Brian Bishop murdered his wife he was sixty miles away, asleep in bed at the time. At least that's the way it looks to Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, who is called in to investigate the kinky slaying of beautiful socialite, Katie Bishop. Roy Grace soon starts coming to the conclusion that Bishop has performed the apparently impossible feat of being in two places at once.

They said the dead can't hurt you.... They were wrong. The House on Cold Hill is a chilling and suspenseful ghost story from the multimillion-copy best-selling author of Dead Simple, Peter James. Moving from the heart of Brighton and Hove to the Sussex countryside is a big undertaking for Ollie and Caro Harcourt and their 12-year-old daughter, Jade. But when they view Cold Hill House - a huge, dilapidated Georgian mansion - Ollie is filled with excitement.

I have never read any Peter James books before but happened across this as it was recommended to me by Audible.
I'm a sucker for a horror/haunted house story so gave it a try and I'm so glad that I did.
The book had me gripped from the very start. The story is wonderful and the characters very engaging.
I'm not going to give anything away except to say it's written in the manner of a traditional ghost story.
My first foray into the world of Peter James and definitely not my last.
The BEST book that I have listened to for a very long time. Extremely well written and narrated. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

On a night when it begins snowing in every country of the world, an ordinary group of people gather at a rundown English pub to take shelter from the cold. At first they assume the weather is just some random occurrence, but as the night goes on, strange things happen, and it isn't long before the group begin to realize that something far more sinister is at hand than just the weather. Something that none of them could ever have imagined. By the end of the night, not everyone will make it, and those that do may wish they hadn't.

I really wanted to like this book but unfortunately I found the story really hard going.
In all honesty I only finished it out of my stubborn streak coming out.
The narrator wasn't great with certain accents shifting between Irish and Geordie in the same sentence.
Not for me unfortunately.
