A truly amazing book! The narration was brilliant.
it was very descriptive with detail about wildlife that even a novice would find fascinating. the life of a young girl living to survive alone and growing up in desperate poverty but finding her own happiness in her surroundings. I couldn't put it down. I loved this from start to finish, the story is wonderful.

it took a while for me to get into this audio. i nearly gave up but decided to persevere. overall a good listen but found i drifted off a lot as it was very slow all the way through. Narration was good which was probably the only reason i continued.
the reviews have all been excellent so maybe it was just not for me.

i found this book quite hard going from the start. The author put far too much description into every sentence, so after a few chapters i felt the story was very slow and what was put into several chapters could have fitted into 1. the story line was good and had it flowed better i would have persevered but gave up at chapter 13. good narrator.

The start of this book is really interesting but as it goes on there is quite a long period in the middle of the story that is quite drawn out and I almost gave up but I’m glad I stuck with it because the last third is very good and overall a great read. The narration is excellent.

Outstanding narration to an unputdownable book!

Beautifully written I laughed and laughed and cried and cried and read it non-stop. All of the characters are amazing and the narration was absolutely superb and would look out for the narrator again.
Loved it loved it loved it!

Beautifully written. You could loose yourself in the book totally. The narration was amazing. I loved her interpretation of both children Pamela and Penny. I cried, laughed and couldn’t put the book down. When it ended I was taken by surprise, not because it was a poor ending but I was absorbed in the story and characters so much I didn’t see it coming !
Truly one of the best books I have read in a long time.

Struggled to finish it...

I have listed to all available Lisa Jewell books and have loved them all but sadly not this one. i would praise the author on her other books for the superb narraters but unfortunately for me Emma Gregory just didnt have me gripped.
The male voice of Luke grated on me and i found myself drifting off often during the story. in fairness to EG the story was not my favourite so it was probably a combination of the two.
i did see it to the end but to honest the ending was terribly weak so wish i hadn't bothered.

I literally could not put this book down. It is beautifully written and the narration is fantastic.
So cleverly
written capturing each character with the narration.
Cannot find any more books on audible by this author so will wait excitedly for her next one.

Such a shame as the majority of the reviews were 5 star. At the very beginning it felt promising although found the narration jumped from character to character, past to present and some of the voices sounded the same so I wasn't really sure who they were describing. Once they arrived in Scotland and the Scottish accents started i drifted off as i found the voice a little dreary to listen too. The storyline was trying to be like an Agatha christie but without the depth.
i gave up after the 4th chapter and to be honest couldn't care less who did it.
