What did you like best about Shantaram? What did you like least?

Excellent narrator. Never been in South India but it felt familiar to what I have experienced in other regions.
Main character is painfully narcistic despite being petty thief, addict, criminal and terrorist.

Has Shantaram put you off other books in this genre?

Not really.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

First paragraphs when scenery unprevails.

Did Shantaram inspire you to do anything?

Speak with my Indian friends and establish how real it is.

Any additional comments?

For some reasons I still enjoyed it.

Very good read. "Passage" was one of the best reads recently. Mr Brick does the fantastic job.Can not wait for the last of three.

Got it as soon as it was available. As story draws to the conclusion and one more instalment was announced I was not expecting too much.

Evan then " disappointment" is understatement.3/4 of the book are the references to the previous events and rest is all about nothing.

I will get the last one though but I do not mind to wait for it for another 10-20 years; by then I will need all the story "recapitulation" and ...: why he hates Poles (S. M. Stirling I mean)???

What the hell happend?

What started as a good "space opera" reading, with good plot, very interesting characters and grand setting, half way trough become chore to listen. Lack of logic, inconsequence's, repetitions and trivial dialogues. Like from "I have an idea for the best story in my life" to "let's finish it quickly I don't care any more". What a waste. My favourite SF author, S.Lem, wrote book which consist of reviews of never written books. Sorry Mr Gibson, that's where your story belongs.

Fact twisting

Detailed and passionate story??? I do not know. History of American military complex seen trough prism of catholic/Christian and Hippy philosophy (with lot of personal guilt) could be still quite informative. Unfortunately misleading interpretations of some facts and processes, omitting some facts and processes to nicely wrap up the whole story, make me doubt the factual basis for the book. What we are left with is: ?bad, bad America and god, kind-hearted USSR/Russia?. What a crap!!!!
