I started this book very unsure about whether this would be ‘my cup of tea ‘, but I found that it was better than that! I found the story to be both funny and believable, although I don’t know much about amnesia. The descriptions of being a mother were convincing too. I definitely recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this story, and can recommend it. It could have gone on for a bit longer, but perhaps that is being saved for another book?

Meet Samuel: stalled writer, bored teacher at a local college, obsessive player of online video games. He hasn't seen his mother, Faye, in decades, not since she abandoned her family when he was a boy. Now she has suddenly reappeared, having committed an absurd politically motivated crime that electrifies the nightly news, beguiles the Internet, and inflames a divided America. The media paints Faye as a radical hippie with a sordid past, but as far as Samuel knows, his mother was an ordinary girl who married her high school sweetheart.

I really enjoyed this book, and a lot of the enjoyment was from the excellent narration. The humour in the story was hugely enhanced by the narration. The book could have been a great deal shorter, but the characters were well written and worth getting to know, which seems to me to be the eventual point of the story. I’m going to miss listening to it.

I enjoyed this story right to the end. It was quietly compulsive, with no murders, nevertheless I wanted the mystery solved.
