Inspector Betty Church - one of the few female officers on the force - has arrived from London to fill a vacancy at Sackwater police station. But Betty isn't new here. This is the place she grew up. Time ticks slowly in Sackwater. Having solved the case of the missing buttons, Betty's called to the train station to investigate a missing bench. But though there's no bench, there is a body. A smartly dressed man, murdered in broad daylight, with two distinctive puncture wounds in his throat. While the locals gossip about the Suffolk Vampire, Betty Church readies herself to hunt a dangerous killer.

Would you try another book written by Kim Newman or narrated by William Gaminara?

No to Kim Newman but yes to William Gaminara

Would you ever listen to anything by Kim Newman again?

No, I was 4 chapters into this book but still had no idea what the storyline was!

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of William Gaminara?

?

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It was funny. Perhaps you have be super quick witted to understand this book but as I listen at the end of a hard day, I was anything but 'quick'!

Any additional comments?

Funny with mentions of the Beatles and 5 other famous names in one sentence. It would appeal to some though.

Again, I have spent lovely hours getting embroiled in this book. So unusual a concept and yet it's perfectly believable after a while. Some comments have mentioned how they felt the voices were 'over the top' but I thought they were perfect. To me, the narrator was so good, it felt as if I was listening to a full cast production! Besides how else are Frankenstein, two elderly protectors, Dracula and various other crazy characters going to sound? just superb!

Brenda has had a long and eventful life and she has come to Whitby to run a B&B in search of some peace and quiet. She and her best friend Effie like nothing better than going out for tea and keeping their eyes open for any of the mysterious goings on in town. But the oddest thing in Whitby may well be Brenda herself. With her terrible scars, her strange lack of a surname or the fact that she takes two different shoe sizes, Brenda should have known that people as, well, unique as she is, just aren’t destined for a quiet life.

Wow! how on earth (or not) do you dream up something like this! Really good twists and turns with an ending you will never guess. Book one and two kept me on the edge of my seat. I think they may be books for young adults as no unnecessary adult scenes and swearing that, due to the storyline, is removed or bleeped. But still great for adults. I am now desperate to read book 3. If you like space, drama, action and a little romance this book is for you.
