This is not a bad book, but it's not a scary book or particularly thrilling either. In fact it's rather sentimental. Way too sentimental in my opinion. the story is ok but rather predictable with characters who seems to be irrelevant or develop in ways that don't seem to make sense. There is some tension but not much and the title seems I've only been picked for its dramatic one word later rather than anything to do with the story. Very small section is shoehorned into it for explanation but in essence doesn't make sense. I'm not sure why there seems to be a popular book, maybe because it's been out for 30 years so has developed more fanbase than his more recent work. either way don't buy it if if you need something a bit more gripping and gruesome. But do get it if you like dogs and romance

the only thing hardcore about this book is my disappoinment. volume one was great so of course I wanted the next installment. but it rubbish.

ever story is weak, self gratifying and not scary.
when it is hardcore ( porn) it's not even good porn. clumsy and unimaginative.
returned title and will not bother with volume 3

So I'm a fan of the All Souls books so very happy to see another pop up. I knew it wasn't a direct continuation but was happy to spend time in that world. But sadly it's lost its sparkle. We're has the magic gone? I'm not just talking about Diana's but the magic in the writing that got you hooked in the previous books! This is basically 3+ story's with a tenuous connection to each other. Non of them are done justice and the segways into them is clumsy in the extreme! I'm so disappointed. If this was a first book there would be no takers. Please please let the magic come back again because I'm losing faith

if you want to listen to a book that is basically rewritten fairy tales with a bit of boring sexual innuendo added then this is the book for you. it's really not sexy or titillating or even vaguely interesting. I can't tell if it's the author to blame entirely or if the narrator has a lot to do with it. but either way I really wouldn't bother with this. the author obviously just needed to get an income from another book so thought it would be a good idea to plagiarize a load of fairy tales that I'd probably run out of copyright and adds some very uninspired sexual spine. I struggled through it and came out the other side hating every character. ( except maybe Puss in boots) who is the best of a bad bunch

This is very well done and I did enjoy it. But I was very disappointed to find the original score was only used for atmosphere. I was expecting intense narrative (which I got) and then longer periods of the music and songs. I wanted to be full immersed in the story and swept away but the full length music. It was such a missed opportunity and although I did enjoy it a lot it's just made me want to listen to the original. If you read the reviews the are a lot of other who feel the same.

when listening to Conan Doyle own words you can hear the genius in the man and the reason we love Sherlock Holmes. Sadly we are forced to listen to flaccid, boring and repetitive interviews padding out what could have been a great show. the diary entries are funny and fascinating but I really don't care about an ink pot that he once owned and I really don't care what's coming up in other episodes when the information is repeated over and over again. these free shows are a great idea but not if Audible are just going to make them cheap and easy

This is essentially the same story as Dark Matter wich I loved. Sadly Think Air feels like a bad rehash just set up a mountain and Paver uses similar "creepy " happening but with less affect. shame.

A top collection.

I'm not sure why this collection has got such a low review as I found it to be really good! It's a hard thing to get an anthology right when it's one particular monster that your focusing on and the mix in this book worked really well. There are some really dark story's here but also some with a bit of fantasy, humour and action. Its a wide spectrum and I never got bored. In fact I wish thay would put out another volume.

My only criticism is that one story set in England ( the one with Van Helsing) is so horribly read and performed with such terrible accents that I skip it every time as I cannot stand the narrator. But if I only hate one story out of this collection then I think it's forgivable and I would still recommend it to all.

I can't tell if the book is boring or its been let down by the dull narration.
I know this is supposed to be a classic but you have to plow through a lot of official records that are dry as dust, many technical details that can be interesting but overwhelming and narrator who's never changes his voice from a bland monotone. Even when somthing dramatic dose happen it's hard to tell wich may well have killed this book outright.
The concept is great but it just doesn't deliver. I'm disappointed and will not bother to listen again

This is my first book by Simmons but I am now a big fan.

His discrimination of India is just what I remember from travelling and his mix of detective story, thriller and supernatural tail is addictive. Although the supernatural element may not be as much as you expect this is a truly terrifying story.
