Early in her life, Josephine Malone learned the hard way that there was only one person she could love and trust: her grandmother, Lydia Malone. Out of necessity, unconsciously and very successfully, Josephine donned a disguise to keep all others at bay. She led a globetrotting lifestyle on the fringes of the fashion and music elite, but she kept herself distant. While Josephine was trotting the globe, retired boxer Jake Spear was living in the same small town as Lydia.

This is an unconventional story. This includes the very catalyst by which the two main characters meet. This book keeps you guessing the whole way through. Whilst lulling you into a full sense of security, where you then believe you understand everything, before Ashley drops a very large bomb shell that flips the entirety of the story! It is a beautiful romance, whilst having an alpha male who has three kids; each of who are individually unique and wonderful and Josephine has two teenage kids of her own (I really hope Ashley will write a book for each of the kids - I want to know where they end up!) This is a book distinctly more mature than Ashley's other books where all the characters have seen much more of life, which simultaneously makes the book more grounded. Whilst the books starts: macabre, sombre and confused, this story progresses into battles and the reinvigoration of the protagonist as she turns her life around, being divorce, she doesn't let that word or her past define her and in the end she redefines herself! This story is not just a romance...It is a seamless story of self discovery and family.

The goofy heroin that moons over high school hottie. Whilst a cliché begging, this is an utterly unique story. Hannah, now 26, her high school crush, Raid, has been in the army and seen the most harrowing things in life a person can see and he is suffering with these memories. Whilst Hannah's life is very narrow as she is hidden in her books and looking after her grandmother she manages to get entangled, unconsciously in the drug business; but now Raid has her back.... but that doesn't mean that their troubles are over. This is one of Ashley's best story lines with countless twist and turns whilst also being hilariously funny as this unconventional couple are paired together!

Sylvia is as bad ass and powerful as all the alpha males Ashley creates, whilst suffering through a bad past at the heart of this book is an endearing love story that originates at childhood. This series as a whole is much darker and haunting as the characters battle their pasts. Therefore it's not quite as funny as Ashley's other ingenious series (Rock Chick Series). Whilst I find this delicate romance story touching as you hear it progress over years and years ever since Sylvia was six - yet that was the one annoying part about this story I didn't like the constant flashbacks although I can see how they are vital to this story.

But he never expected something as sweet as Anya Gage to wander into his bedroom during a party he did not expect to be having to borrow his phone. Knight tries to leave Anya to the life she deserves, with white picket fences and a man who watches football on Sundays - good, normal, and clean.

I enjoyed this book as it paves the way for the other three books in the series so a recommended read if you want to read more Kristin Ashley for you addicts out there! This book is good. A decisive breakaway from Ashley's normal book formula as her hero's (alpha males) are much darker and have suffered more difficult pasts. They also combat the new trend - touching into the fifty shades psyche but it is not a main component in the book. Whilst I love Ashley's books, I would not say this is her strongest story (although if you bare through it, the other three books get better and better...). I also found the nicknames for the characters annoying as halfway through the protagonists starts calling Knight (her man) "Daddy" which after saying it constantly becomes more and more cringe-able. Although overall it is a good performance and worth the time for the impact it has on the rest of the series... my favourite is Deacon.

A human woman who is Kidnapped by aliens seeking compatible to breeding partners as their race is struggling to reproduce. Kyra determined to be incompatible is given to the slaves for whoever is the prizefighter. Obviously Ral wins!
As an offering its bit boring and predictable. The story also becomes annoying due to a lack of character development, only because she comes to terms with her capture, ownership and the love she feels is almost instantaneous.
It an average and predictable alien romance but not one of LD's better ones. Some moment had excitement but by the end the book was lagging and I was not begging for the next book, in fact maybe struggling to finish the book if I am being brutally honest...
Simone Lewis gives a great performance despite the less than thrilling material.

Indy Savage is a former wild child (okay, maybe not so "former") and current used-bookstore owner. Lee Nightingale is a former bad boy and now runs a private investigation service. Toss together a quiet barista with a not-so-lawful side-business, a crazy Vietnam Vet, a pothead, a drag queen, family and friends who will not mind their own business, a few stun guns, and a bag of diamonds, and mix them all up with some shootings, a high-speed chase and car bombs exploding, then hang on for your first wild Rock Chick ride.

Kristina Ashley is a contemporary Romance writer who combines these the passion with the thrill and danger of an action movie! Whilst following these epic journeys of self-discoveries and unions between characters these transcendent stories are intertwined with high moments of hilarious and inescapable situations. The humour in these moments is almost addictive. (Most typically shown Rock Chick Series).

The majority of Ashley's books feature alpha males coupled with sassy young women with attitude and friendship in abundance. However, Ashley writes like a machine having more than 10 book series the majority she is still contributing to. But where to begin? The Rock Chick series, is probably the most logical begin as it overarches all the other series - it's almost as if Ashley has created a whole new world, because as you work your way through her books you hear of all the other characters along the way and how their lives progress. Each series seems to take a new perception into relationships and the dynamics between people.

In the first book, you get introduced to the majority of the men working in Lee's Security firm all of who are extremely hot in their own way. Along the way Indy introduces us to a number of crazy characters my favourite being Tex as she struggles to stay safe and avoid being kidnapped the serious undertones are met with moment of extreme hilarity...have fun reading! I just want to read the whole Rock chick series again!

This is a romance that while tender and loving is cloaked in deceit and action in moments you least expect constantly keeping you on your toes. These moments are contrasted by the extreme moment of hilarity - if I wasn't biting my lip in anxiousness or crying I was laughing out loud! Gibson's narration contributes wonderfully to the protagonist's voice emphasising her maturity and intelligence yet innocent nature which again contributes to the humour...Loved this book!

Never mix business with pleasure. Never bring politics into the bedroom. In a way I did both when I took Jackson Rutledge as a lover. I can't say I wasn't warned. Two years later, he was back. Walking into a deal I'd worked hard to close. Under the tutelage of Lei Yeung, one of the sharpest businesswomen in New York, I had picked up a thing or two since Jax walked away. I wasn't the girl he once knew, but he hadn't changed. Unlike the last time we'd drifted into each other's lives, I knew exactly what I was dealing with...and how addictive his touch could be.

Where does Afterburn & Aftershock rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is probably one of my favourite! With strong characters and ultimately a powerful story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jackson is my favourite character. Whilst an alpha male who initially hate and want to keep hating you just can't help smiling when he starts talking or come into the presence of the protagonist!

What about Amy McFadden’s performance did you like?

I am no accent expert yet I think it was a stellar performance. I loved hearing all the different rich American accents, as they also play an instrumental role in the development of Gianna's character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Defiantly, I was addicted going so far I was avoiding people so I could concentrate on the riveting story.

Any additional comments?

This is a perfect romance novel of an alpha male who also has other faucets to his character, just as all the characters are engineered and developed expertly. Gianna is a sassy young women, when hurt by a man bounces back, becoming strongly independent and taking the business by a storm. Her chemistry and attitude towards Jackson makes it a truly interesting read...
