The first pulse occurred in the old calendar year of 2022. Gigantic solar flares created massive electromagnetic pulses that stopped the heart of our modern world and returned us to the Dark Ages. And Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant Nathaniel Hogan finds that he has been changed by the gamma radiation in the solar flares. They have enhanced his natural abilities, giving him increased speed, strength, and healing; indefinitely extending his life span and enabling him to be able to draw on the power of the solar flares to create magik. But even he was not prepared for what happened next.

I love books by Craig Zerf, he writes a cracking story and interesting characters, but the quality of narration on this audiobook really lets it down. Michael Neeb has the world's worst Irish accent (the priest) and seems unable to pronounce many simple English words.

Excellent storyline, but the narrator needs to learn how to pronounce English - she misreads and mispronounces a lot of words, which is a pet peeve of mine.

Ash: I still don't know how it happened. One minute, I was arguing with my arrogant competitor - our usual trash-talk over who deserves the larger commission. But somehow, I went from throwing down to kneeling down.... It can never happen again. I don't even like him. He's too slick. He's a manipulating, mansplaining party boy in preppy clothes. So why can't I get him out of my head? Sebastian: Ash is my missing my piece. She's the sweet cream to my gourmet espresso. And nothing gets me going faster than her contempt for me.

I was expecting just the usual werewolf reverse harem/menage erotica, but it was actually a fascinating story. Enjoying it would not be the term I would use, I was drawn in to the story, and kept thinking about the heroine, was she TSTL, or was she just naïve? The boyfriend and his buddy were asses. I am off now to purchase the next instalment.

I struggled somewhat in this review. On one hand, I adored the heroine, even if she was a bit of a wilting flower at times, and the hero was appropriately noble and handsome, but I wanted to take a switch to his ass (and not in a fun way). The story was torturous and full of angst, a bit too much if you ask me, but they got there in the end, so I have given in a 4/5 all in all.

Whilst I enjoyed this book, and found the story very touching in places, there is the underlying theme of BDSM, at times taken a bit too far, but in keeping with the storyline. I found it quite romantic in the end, and now I know what a ginger fig is! lol I did find the narrator to be a bit slow, and although she managed a quite good upper class English accent, there were some glaring mispronouncing of certain words, so I only gave her three stars. All in all a good book, if read a bit too slow.

At 34, I'm reeling from a divorce. I don't want to party or try to move on. I just want to stay home and post a new recipe on my blog: Brynn's Dips and Balls. But my friends aren't having it. Get out there again, they say. It will be fun, they say. I'm still taking a hard pass. Free designer cocktails, they say. And that's a game-changer. Too bad my ex shows up with his new arm candy. I enjoyed the story, the characters were interesting and the plot well-developed, in my opinion. What let it down was the narrator. She sounded like a teenage girl reading out loud in English class, with a lot of mispronouncing.
