I hadn't heard the hype around this book before purchasing and it was recommended to me by a friend, so I had few expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. The book is superb ....beautifully written and completely absorbing. To listen to a view of slavery (a subject im afraid Im ignorant of) from the inside the experiences of those enslaved was very powerful indeed.
The narrator also did an excellent job of drawing the listener in.
Highly recommended

Shame as the book started off well but character of Joe was almost unbelievably slow and this got frustrating as the end was rather predictable. Could skip middle 30 chapters and still catch up pretty quickly as everything that happened was repeated a lot in either thought or speech.
Felt like a cheap US drama (think sunset beach) in a book

Wonderful storytelling
