Welcome to Caraval, where nothing is quite what it seems. Scarlett has never left the tiny isle of Trisda, pining from afar for the wonder of Caraval, a once-a-year weeklong performance where the audience participates in the show. Caraval is magic. Mystery. Adventure. And for Scarlett and her beloved sister, Tella, it represents freedom and an escape from their ruthless, abusive father. When the sisters' long-awaited invitations to Caraval finally arrive, it seems their dreams have come true.

I found this after reading the wonderful ‘Strange the Dreamer’ ... you know, through the ‘you may also like...’ type of links.
I wish I hadn’t. It’s a disgraceful, clumsy, childish, concoction of pretty words trying to disguise the lack of any cohesive plot. The characters are to a last one, uninteresting, shameful stereotypes. The vacuous interview with the author at the end is very telling; if it had been at the start, I could have saved some precious time. Worst Book Ever! Zero stars would be more accurate than one star.

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.

Took me by surprise.
Was struggling for my next listen;
this seemed like the least worse option.
What a wonderful surprise! It’s a beautifully
told tale of awe, wonder, and possibilities.
Roll on the next instalment!

Under the streets of London there's a world most people could never even dream of: a city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, and pale girls in black velvet. Richard Mayhew is a young businessman who is about to find out more than he bargained for about this other London. A single act of kindness catapults him out of his safe and predictable life and into a world that is at once eerily familiar and yet utterly bizarre.

Great story, Neil narrates brilliantly.
As good as American Gods (almost).
I'll try to find the TV adaptation from years ago.
