Nothing really happens. Yes, there is: Fall in love at first sight, fight, make up -but that is it.

A little mediocre, a little meh. Not a bad read for a one time read on a dark afternoon with not much else to do.

It is one of those books I cannot quite name why I did not like it. It is well written, the story is on first impression very intriguing but for most of the book it just is dreary. Ot might be because most of the characters are too one dimensional for most of the book. I just could not really get the enthusiasm up to desperately want to go on - or to stop the recoding whilst I do housework. Just a bit meh.

This book simply cannot decide what it wants to be - a crime thriller, erotica, horror... The sex scenes are cringingly bad not because they are bad in itself but because they are not written in a way that draws the reader in and thus just disturb the flow. The characters are flat and it all makes the story a little confusing and meh.

I like love stories - I really do. But I expect some form of tension or at least something happening...

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If the actual background would be better researched. It s sad - the writing is fun and the dialogue good but I just cannot get over the basic mistakes regarding virtually everything regarding universities. When giving a main character the university background as a main motivator it is important to just have one conversation with a lecturer to sort out the basics. That counts for any other main motivator as well. It just grates when all is wrong.

Has Perfect Remains put you off other books in this genre?

yes - I prefer not to read fake news in any form

What about Angus King’s performance did you like?

It was good

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

The books portrays a world full of accepted misogyny and homophobia. It feels very 1960s in many ways.

Has She Can Run put you off other books in this genre?

yes

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Amy Rubinate?

n/a

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from She Can Run?

It is not the scenes - it is the casual misogyny and homophobia I object to

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I just cannot like any single character in the book. The writing is very good and there is nothing to complain there but the characters are everything I hate in books: a girl that cries and expects to be rescued, a man who is overbearing and selfish...

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The author tries to be so desperately edgy that it is funny in between - a little less trying and the writing, which is not bad, would come through better.

What was most disappointing about T. M. Frazier’s story?

I like a good antihero but I simply cannot relate to a character who stands by and glorifies rape. When later the female lead comes on the stage all I want to do is tell the female character to bloody well get away from him and that does not help with any developing romance.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

the narrators were fine

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really - the characters are a strange mix of mundane and pretend complicated.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was pretty predictable but this did not detract from the story at all

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?

no

If this book were a film would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

The story is good and easy listening, the development holds your attention. It is the characters which throw you on occasion. They are just simply annoying and mostly lack intelligence.
