Thought provoking (why would anyone want to be immortal?) insight into the world of Greek Gods. Those spoilt unpleasant Gods who are interested only in their pleasures. This story brings them to life and allows you to imagine how it was when they ruled and wonder if they still do.....

Definitely brilliant.

A timeless piece of comedy that makes you laugh out loud, if you listen in public be aware of strange looks from others.

Listened to this for a book club and was amazed at just how brilliant the storyline was.
Different from anything I usually read or listen to but completely addictive.

Wow. Compulsive listening, amazing story one of the best novels I have ever “read” for The Carnegie Medal.
Moonbeam is a great character, mature for her age, good hearted and a survivor.
Excellent novel.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Foxglove Summer?

Peter's decision to invite all of the older wizards to view the names carved by Thomas Nightingale at the school. Loved the idea of having an open day and all of the Rivers & co turning up and chatting with the wizards.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The morning after the night before when Peter and Beverley walked to find a lift. Once you have heard this book you will understand!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could listen all day to Kobna Holbrook-Smith reading this series. In fact I have done so.

Any additional comments?

First listen it was a 4/5 but as a huge fan I knew it needed another listen - immediately. After the second listen it was a 5/5. Haven't enjoyed a series or looked forward to the next instalment so much since Harry Potter.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Do you trust someone enough to hold their hand?

If you enjoyed The Hunger Games & Divergent you'll love this. Similar but not the same!

What about Johanna Parker’s performance did you like?

That wonderful southern accent that would make a shopping list interesting.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I giggled my way through out, Sookie is sweet but not sickly and the part where you discover what had happened to her when a little girl - wow very emotional but understated. Sookie is my hero.

Any additional comments?

I haven't seen the TV series but I have a very strong image in my mind of the characters.
This is a series of audio books I shall be listening to again and again.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Cuckoo's Calling to be better than the print version?

Haven't read the print version but I enjoyed Robert Glenister reading to me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Liked Strike, he was an interesting character and loved the way the relationship developed with Robyn.

Any additional comments?

I chose this book because of the J K Rowling connection and the story appealed to me. Ignoring the J K connection this was an enjoyable listen with two main characters that I liked. Hopefully this is the start of a new series - please can Robert read any future books?
