After listening to 8 Dickens books previously on Audible and enjoying them, this one was a massive disappointment, the characters weren’t really developed and the storyline waffled on at times that it became very frustrating.
I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone as it would probably put them off Charles Dickens books forever.

For me the dramatization just didn’t work, would have preferred the book to have been read as written. Nice gesture to make it a free Christmas download Audible but I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone.

Definitely the best Dickens novel I have had the pleasure of listening to. Superb characters in a compelling interwoven storyline. Compliments to Martin Jarvis whose reading was magnificent.
I would recommend this to all.

I found the American passages in this book somewhat uninteresting and took away from the main storyline. Not one of Dickens best efforts so not surprised it didn’t sell well at the time of writing. Overly descriptive at times and some of the conversations were ridiculously drawn out. I wouldn’t recommend this book except to a diehard fan of Dickens.

I have had most of Chris Carter’s books and thoroughly enjoyed them but sadly found this the weakest. The dialogue between Hunter and Garcia is totally unrealistic for police partners of more than 10 years, in fact Garcia comes across as positively thick and hardly capable to be a detective. The other characters didn’t seem convincing either especially Captain Blake. Normally a fan of his books but this one was not for me.

Excellent thriller with great characters, thoroughly enjoyable to listen to and I found it quite difficult to put down. Well read by Thomas Judd.
