Alexander Hamilton was an illegitimate, largely self-taught orphan from the Caribbean who overcame all the odds to become George Washington's aide-de-camp and the first Treasury Secretary of the United States. Few figures in American history are more controversial. In this masterful work, Chernow shows how the political and economic power of America today is the result of Hamilton's willingness to champion ideas that were often wildly disputed during his time.

Having watched the play and being your typical ignorant brit I wanted to find more. Both my friend and I (she read however) found it was really interesting and even though you know where the story is going you never know what's coming next. The level of politics is perfect... Not too long but enough that you are kept aware and interested in different stances. I also liked that this book is not just about AH but those around him, giving fair representation of all.

In Episode 6, Miranda finally sits her driving test. But on the morning of the test, she is completely thrown by a surprising and unexpected houseguest, wearing one of her flatmate Dan's T-shirts and making herself more than at home. Celebrating her test (we're not saying she passes by the way), more might be exposed than even Miranda is comfortable with. Dreams are espoused and plans are hatched to escape the city in this first season finale.

A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.

And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.
